Join Us at STANYS 2025!

Are you attending the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) Conference? Connect with the PEER Physics team at our booth (#401), the Physics Teacher Breakfast on Sunday, and two interactive workshops designed to enhance student discourse and collaboration:

Saturday Workshop: Engage Students in Rich Discourse

Saturday, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM | Oncenter, Meeting Room 4 Speaker: Julian Martins, PEER Physics

Explore effective small-group and whole-class discourse techniques in this interactive workshop. Learn how intentional teaching moves, classroom norms, and discourse protocols can strengthen student discourse grounded in model building, revision, and shared evidence. Participants will leave with ready-to-use consensus-building protocols to support student-driven conversations and deepen engagement with scientific ideas.

Sunday Workshop: Foster Collaboration and Inclusion using Science Practices

Sunday, 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM | Oncenter, Meeting Room 4 Speaker: Julian Martins, PEER Physics

Discover how science practices can build a more inclusive and engaging learning environment. Participants will explore the PEER Physics Learning Cycle and learn how phenomenon-driven instruction creates spaces where all students are encouraged to contribute, collaborate, and revise their thinking.

New Storyline Arc Guides

Discover the pedagogical reasoning behind PEER Physics' strategic sequencing!

Our new Storyline Arc Guides explain why our Charge→Magnetism→Waves and Energy→Force→Gravitation sequences support conceptual development and address common preconceptions.

These guides help teachers and administrators understand how concepts build progressively across units, increasing confidence in delivering conceptually coherent physics instruction.

Celebrating Success

We're honored to spotlight Hannah Donovan, a PEER Physics teacher whose journey began in Scottsdale, Arizona. When Hannah moved to Aurora, Colorado to teach math in Cherry Creek School District, her PEER Physics pedagogy and passion traveled with her. She continues to collaborate with our team, bringing valuable feedback and perspective to the Development Team through thoughtful standards mapping work. Here's what Julian Martins, our Director of Development, shared about Hannah's journey with PEER Physics:

"Hannah Donovan is an extraordinarily driven and passionate member of the PEER Physics community. In 2024, Hannah reached out to the PEER Physics Development Team and asked to get involved in our projects. She quickly went above and beyond, applying her time and expertise to development work that isn't exactly seen as 'glamorous'—revising and expanding documentation of PEER Physics alignment with academic standards such as the NGSS. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Hannah!"

Thanks for your passion and dedication, Hannah! We're honored to work with you.
